Cabin Renovation Has Begun Elm and Willow are available after some construction work. We installed a new floor, which will also be done to Cottonwood, Aspen, and Cedar cabins. The new floors include geothermal heat, which will save almost 25% of our electricity. We plan to use that electricity for hot tub improvements. We plan to have the geothermal heat in all cabins online by the end of Spring 2012.

Bats Have Left The large majority of bats have left for the season. We'll miss their prodigious appetite for insects, and look forward to their return next June. More on the bats is on our Bats page.

Fire Now Allowed in the Pavilion A dose of rain this month has allowed us to allow a fire in the Pavilion. All other campfires are still prohibited, and all smoking must be kept to your vehicle. |

Updated Info on the Orient Mine Closure to Cavers: Due to White Nose Syndrome, affecting bat colonies as far west as Oklahoma, the Orient Mine continues to be closed to caver access until further notice. See the Orient Mine Closure Information page for updated details, including a link to the US Forest Service Emergency Order closing caves and abandoned mines in the Rocky Mountain Region. Note: this does not affect hikes to the cave to see the bat outflight. |

and print 4 different brochures that cover much of what you need to know about
visiting Orient Land Trust and Valley View Hot Springs.
Reminder - 10 day monthly limit. Because OLT has a visitor quota to keep Valley View from getting too crowded, we end up turning away many people who would love to stay here, especially on weekends and during the summer. Because of this we have a 10 day monthly limit for all visitors. For any given stay, this translates to the number of nights, plus one (because everyone has use of the hot springs all day on the day of their departure). For example, a 3-night stay counts as 4 "days", so if you are here for two 3-night stays in a month you would have used up 8 days. It sounds complicated, but it isn't! Please check with the front desk if you are confused about any given reservation. Also, there is a 10 day "waiting period" between stays of a week or more to keep guests from staying 20 days straight at the end of one month and the beginning of the next. We are trying to balance fairly long stays at Valley View (up to 9 consecutive nights) while trying to make it more available to everyone who wants to come here.
