Volunteer

Volunteers are essential to OLT. The best thing visitors can give is stewardship of OLT’s lands, resources, and culture. Please consider donating your time to help us work more efficiently toward protecting northern San Luis Valley’s unique resources and open space.

Adopt-A-Highway County Road GG Cleanup

Fun in the Sun

Twenty-four volunteers and staff members took part in our annual Adopt-A-Highway County Road GG Clean-up on Saturday, September 20, 2025, organized by the Conservation Committee of OLT. The group spent a productive morning cleaning both sides of GG, as well as a bonus cleanup of a very old (and large) homestead dump on one of OLT’s new land parcels along the south side of GG. After filling over fifty large (and heavy) trash bags, many of us spent Saturday afternoon and Sunday soaking away the sore muscles.

Thanks to all who helped! Participants were volunteers Dora H., Cindy C., Jeff C., Michelle A., Ed S., Kirsten R., Clemens T., Robin S., Patti H., Nadine G., Bonita B., Martha L., E.Y. Y., Erick E., Mark C., David G., David R., David E., OLT Board members Tricia H., Terry S., Jon F., and Bill M., and Facilities Manager Mica B., and, of course, our Executive Director Crystal E.

I hope everybody found this worthwhile, and we hope to see you all again next fall! OLT members who volunteer for events like this truly make a difference in maintaining and improving Valley View and Everson Ranch. Stay tuned for more volunteer opportunities next year, and keep an eye out for improvements at the ranch. Dates are yet to be set, but we are planning a two-day tree-planting event at the ranch next spring; an early summer dead wood clean-up day at the hot springs village; a weed-pulling day at the hot springs village; and another cleanup of County Road GG next fall. And of course, there’s also World Naked Gardening Day on the first Saturday of May. We rely on members like you to make these events a success, and please remember your efforts are rewarded with complimentary admission to the hot springs. Volunteer applications for the events are on the OLT.org website. Join us for any or all!

Building Community

Volunteer Events

Come Volunteer with Us!

At OLT, we believe in the power of community and the incredible impact each individual can have. We’re excited to invite you to join us in making a difference in 2025. Here are a few opportunities for you and other committed community members to join the Conservation Committee.

Campground Clean Up

Join us on Sunday, April 20th, 2025 for a day of volunteering to advance our work towards fire mitigation. Meet at the Welcome Center at 9am for a few hours of gathering dead wood in the campground. We will focus on making the tent sites safer and more attractive.

Adopt A Highway

On September 20, 2025 we’ll gather at the Welcome Center at 9am to participate in Saguache County’s  Adopt-A-Roadway Program, and clean up County Road GG. Staff will transport us from the Welcome Center to various stretches of GG, where we will work in pairs to gather trash from the roadside as we socialize with other OLT members.

A General Note for both volunteer events

Volunteers are invited to camp with us for 2 nights at no charge. Plan to arrive the day before the event to set up and soak. Volunteer events are scheduled for 4 hours unless otherwise noted.
