Powering Valley View

Hydroelectric Power

Every modern comfort enjoyed by visitors at Valley View, from the sauna to the cooking facilities, operates entirely off-grid. These amenities are powered by a highly efficient hydroelectric power plant. The same spring that provides water for our guests’ soaking experiences also heats our cabins, nourishes local plants and wildlife, and generates a moderate amount of electricity. We manage this limited electricity wisely, adjusting our usage to accommodate the demands of drought seasons.

Hydroelectric Power

The streams on the property flow to the collection box, where they are directed down 9,000 feet of pipe, with an elevation drop of 540 feet and about 0.45 psi per foot. This drop creates a low-flow, high-pressure environment until it reaches the Pelton wheel. The Pelton Wheel turns at 1200 rpm, creating all the electricity used across Valley View.

We further engage visitors through guided hydro tours, active research, and educational campaigns. These direct connections have inspired sustainable living practices for generations, fostering a widespread community of tourists, locals, and environmental enthusiasts.

purposeful use of the water

Geothermal Heat

Nearly all our cabins and buildings are heated with gentle geothermal water. The spring water slowly passes through the floor, radiating a comfortable and constant warmth. The water then powers the hydroelectric system, saturates riparian habitats, and supports threatened fish species.
